Immersed, I took in the sounds of screeching birds and pushed huge leaves from my path as I made my way to investigate the bursts of color that were still just a blur in the distance. I pressed on. After dodging the occasional puddle, I discovered the tropical pink pineapples, deep violet banana blossoms sprouting from their tree top perches some 25-feet above me and bright white orchids, all sprinkled with water droplets. The air felt even more moist than the flowers looked and I realized it was at least 20 degrees hotter than only just moments ago, yet somehow the sound of rushing streams made it seem less sweltering. As I wiped the sweat from my forehead, I almost forgot this was early March in downtown St. Louis.

We visited South Carolina for only a few days. We stayed in Greer and went into Greenville for dinner and shopping. Greenville's main street is very cute with many small shops and cafes. At the Falls there is remains of some of the industry buildings from over 100 years ago. The park is very well kept and is nice to stroll around through. |

Moorpark is a bedroom community of Los Angeles and Thousand Oaks with a population of 30,000+. We stayed in the Peach Hill neighborhood which has many green features including walkways, open spaces and undeveloped parks. We explored the neighborhood while we searched for treasure. These hidden treasures are part of a worldwide geo-caching "game" that we learned about while we were in North Carolina. We checked out the website and found that there were hidden caches at the bus stops in the neighborhood. We explored the local bus stops and found them to the some of the cutest that we have seen. |

Everywhere you travel on the Outer Banks of North Carolina you see pictures of horses with a ship's lantern around it's neck. Nags Head was named after a scheme developed by "retired" pirates to increase their supply of spending money (for beer). |

We landed in Charlotte NC to rent a car and drive up to Nags Head. Since it is a long trip we decided to spend 1 night in Charlotte. We wandered around to got some clothing and supplies for the time we would be at the beach house. We chowed down in the mall and visited with the family. We got up in good time the next day and drove up to the Nags Head. Nags Head is located on the far right of the map. The area is also known as the Outer Banks.

This is as close to Greenland that we will probably come for many years. Maybe in the summer it would be cool to check it out the icebergs and glacier. Greenland's coast looked great with it's many valleys, bays and villages. We passed over the southern most edge of Greenland on our way to Canada. Our flight into Europe from Canada was apparently on this same course. I guess we flew over when I saw the amazing green clouds. The northern lights were moving rapidly around the sky in shades of green from as far as I could see. I suspect those lights are why this place was named so. |
