This city was started by the Romans and was the furthest they expanded in this direction. The rivers were too wide for them to effectively support. The city has a number of great things like original medieval city walls and a very old downtown core. The south of Netherlands has a lot of devote Catholics over the centuries so there are many old stone churches dating back over 1000 years ago.
