| Vatican City |

Page 1 of 4 In the late morning we wandered over to the basilica. We got to skip the line and go right in because of the girl and our friend who was in a wheelchair at the time. The inside was incredible, full of huge statues, and many masterpieces. Michelangelo's Pieta was truly life-like and looked light even though we knew it was a solid slab of marble. The place was definitely beautiful. I found that the Cologne Cathedral had a lot more beauty and impressive features. St. Peter's you could tell was newer and built to last. We also visited the Vatican museum and the Sistine Chapel which blew us away. Everything looked so 3D that we had to look for a while to see if it truly wasn't. The route we took to the chapel is down a long corridor where every piece of wall or ceiling space is covered in murals. Looking down the 500m hall it was mind boggling to think about how much time and effort it took for all these galleries. We walked back down the hallway and I quickly checked out the Egyptian section which was pretty interesting but small in comparisons to the Lourve which we would see in a few weeks. We left Vatican City with still more to be seen. We wanted to go up to the Copula but it was rainy and wet so that the view would be blocked. |
